Study area and in situ data

The PSMA is an operational tool for emergency first healthcare. A trained rescue team can operate this rather simple system in about one hour once carried on site. It has its own electric power sources (batteries, generator) and can also work with an external electric source (AC or DC), thus offering autonomy and survival for 4 persons during 4 days. This has been demonstrated during a first realistic simulation experiment (simulation of a plane crash) in Amazon jungle upon request of the ‘SAMU’ in Cayenne and the French Guyana administrative services in June, 2008. The alarm was raised at 8:30 am. At 9:50, an helicopter dropped off the PSMA on the accident site. At 10:40, the system was in service and the staff had taken charge of the victims.
